In sauna there is truth!

Bathing in a steam sauna is so much more than just bathing. Visiting a sauna is as close as it gets to a sacred and respectful encounter with the four basic elements; fertile earth, burning fire, fresh air and clean water, fit to drink. What would an encounter with the magical steam of the sauna be worth if it weren't for the abundant supply of clean drinkable water at these northerly latitudes, a commodity increasingly in short supply around the world.

The sauna is also the place for cleansing perspiration and inspired thoughts. Besides, the naked truth is found in the sauna. Or, as the motto for the Swedish Academy of Sauna goes: In Sauna Veritas - In sauna there is truth!

A sauna in a tree is natural and makes good sense. The Greek philosopher Plato had already seen the connection between trees and steam baths. It was for this reason that his lessons were held in the garden of the popular public steam baths "Akademeia", which gave rise to the word academy.

Plato knew that trees and steam baths provided the perfect stimuli for philosophical thoughts and ideas.

It would come as no surprise if he also regarded the steam bath as an intellectual sanctuary. The Swedish King of the people, Magnus Ladulås, had that understanding when he declared the right to peace in the sauna (bastufriden). Saunas, along with churches, were especially protected places.

In former times it was prohibited to bring weapons into the sauna. Today Rolex watches and intrusive mobile phones are left outside the sauna...

Did you know that the Swedish government rules from an old sauna? As a matter of fact, "Rosenbad" - the name of the government building - was the name of a rose scented experience that the sauna master, Christopher Thiel, offered his visitors.
